BF3 Rigs

Post by SewerMaster » Thu Jun 16, 2011 10:40 pm

So is anyone besides me planning an upgrade or a new build for BF3? I'm kind of bummed that the new HW from Intel and Nvidia won't be here until after the Game is released but I've started squirreling away what hardware I can buy until then. I may buy some inexpensive DX11 video cards to hold me over til the end of the year if Newegg doesn't come through for me and replace my overheating GTX 295's

I'm going with a dual-loop water cooling system for the video cards and the CPU. I may even get all nerdy and buy a T-Virus or a Warp Core resevoir. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10277 ... 30c97s1110

I'm not going quite that hardcore, but I'm going to upgrade my 2-year old Lynnefield 1156 system.

Just got 8GB of 1600 MHz RAM, OC'ed my CPU to 3.8Ghz, and I'm planning on getting a 6950 if there aren't any decent upgrades between now and then; I currently have a DX9 Sapphire 4890

$250 is my budget for a VGA card, and the 560ti and 6950 are so close in performance as to be a tie, so I'll take the 6950 factory OC'ed and go from there.

When is nVidia supposed to launch their next series, and is it a new GPU, or a re-branding of the current one?

I'll have to research that... might be worth to wait... then again, it seems I'm always trying to upgrade when the "next big thing" is coming down the pipe.

if going AMD I suggest the Bulldozer Architecture Chips. the Six core is a little more than the Six core Phenom you have selected but offers much better gaming performance and offers overclocking potential. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103962

also where's the OS?

That case is gonna be a nightmare to work in and the PSU is probably woefully underpowered on the 12v rail.

It's an Ok budget rig.

Just went on a scouting trip to the local Fry's. Here's what I found.

ASUS M5A97 MOBO 99.99
CORSAIR DDR3 1600 8 GIG RAM 44.99
AMD FX 6100 X6 BULLDOZER ARCHITECHURE 169.99
MSI R6870 TWIN FROZER II 1 GIG VID CARD 199.99 MINUS $20 MAIL IN REBATE 179.99
SAMSUNG 1 TB HDD 59.99

Which is probably what I will end up. I think its a fairly decent budget rig. Sewer what's your opinion, pick it apart....

Cappy, I upgraded my PC earlier this year to something similar to what you are looking at and I can run BF3 on fairly high settings with no issues so you should be fine.

Don't know much about the processors, but much of the rest you have picked out is similar to what I am running.
